2x School Technical Design Lead  (Ref: STDL/MA/1208)

Objectives

The role is highly customer focused and requires excellent technical and communication skills to ensure a high degree of customer satisfaction. Primary objectives are:-

Lead and effect the implementation of multiple large complex school solutions, involving the configuration and delivery of a wide range of equipment, technologies and applications.

To consult with the allocated School team to define, guide and design the initial school solution.

To understand the school's long term ICT vision and ensure design supports future aspirations.

To work with Client and construction partners to ensure all ICT considerations have been factored into the construction design

High focus and involvement in complex workshops that include engagement with different audiences that may have limited ICT expertise.

To oversee the implementation of the School ICT solution on site, working closely with the PM, site delivery team and construction partners as required.

Technically abreast of existing, new and emerging technologies within the Education marketplace

Key Tasks

  • Writing customer-facing documentation translating technical designs and solutions into an understandable format
  • Managing, configuring, testing and installing new and existing complex solutions as specified, taking full responsibility for implementation on customer sites.
  • Technically owning and managing complete implementations and delivery of solutions ensuring all outstanding issues and tasks are resolved in a timely manner and, if required, supervising other Implementation Engineers to complete installations
  • Representing Ramesys as the Technical Lead at project meetings with construction partners and sub-contractors
  • Providing advice and guidance on how ICT solutions can be integrated into new school building designs
  • Devising acceptance criteria and technical deliverables of complex multi-platform solutions
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key members of the school's technical staff and other 3rd parties involved in delivery of the solution
  • Providing ICT support to the Educational team specifying how technical solutions meet educational requirements and support transformation
  • Working with Project and Service Account Managers, Implementation Engineers and Managed Services on major schemes as the leading technical person; advising on all stages of the project , preparing the necessary technical documentation ensuring successful implementation and handover to Managed Services for ongoing support.
  • Designing/delivering technical workshops to customers on an individual/ collective basis, both in-house and onsite.
  • Working in accordance with despatch procedures, customer sign off forms, agreed schedules, company processes.

Skills and qualifications

Essential

  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbally, particularly in relation to technical consultations with customers. A good listener.
  • Team leadership and organisational skills to supervise skilled installation teams on customer sites.
  • Excellent Microsoft skills both at a client and server level; these include Microsoft Server NT4.0 to Windows Server 2003, Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003, Migration Experience Essential..
  • Competent with Microsoft ISA installation and configuration
  • Familiar with Microsoft Sharepoint and SQL
  • Well versed in Active Directory Design and Configuration.
  • Excellent networking skills demonstrating experience with Cisco equipment both at LAN and WAN network design levels.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • A current valid driving licence.
  • Excellent customer facing report writing
  • It should be assumed the person has at least 5 years active working experience in these or similar mentioned technologies and systems.

Desirable

  • a) Either obtained an appropriate qualification in Higher Education (eg a University degree or HND), or should have demonstrated equivalent ability through practical experience in a related area.
  • b) Technical certification and have proven competence in one or more of the following disciplines:-
  • Microsoft (MCSE); Novel (CNE) IBM AIX (ASE and/or PSE); SCO Unix (ACE); Compaq (ASE), or their equivalent.
  • c) Proven competence and experience in the following areas:
  • - Clustering environments (IBM, Dell and HP), WAN comms, Firewall/Internet applications.
  • It is unlikely that this experience would be attained in less than 5 years associated with information technology
  • Experience in working in the Education sector and related technological solutions.
  • Experience in the implementation of new build premises, preferably Academies, Building Schools for the Future or similar

Hours

Standard 9:00 to 17:30, extended hours as and when required
